Tuesday, April 28, 2009 7:32 PM

The Men’s Competitive Intramural Basketball Tournament got under way this past Sunday with 1st round action on April 26th, 2009 and 2nd round action on April 27th, 2009

Here is a recap of the games in play…

The second round proved to be lots of fun! The number 1-4 seeds all got upset by lower seeds.

The Young Gunz who were the number one seed in the tournament were upset by The Dominators, who are looking to advance to the championship game for the second straight year. The final score was the Dominators 65, and the Young Gunz 51. The Young Gunz lost their 3 point and shooting touch throughout the entire game and couldn’t knock down any baskets while The Dominators used big games from Chace Howland, Corey Wade, and Nick Motta to seal their final four appearance, for the second straight season.

In a tight game the Muffin Tops lost their game against Gametime by a score of 58 to 57. Mike Hinkley paced GameTime with 18 points. The Muffin Tops got great play from Shaun Connolly and Andrew Rajunas, but couldn’t shut down the big men for GameTime. GameTime has a final four appearance against The Dominators on Thursday!

In the game of the night The Pillows knocked off 3 seeded Da Runners by a score of 68 to 62. The Pillows had a lead throughout the game and looked like they were in complete control until about 3 minutes left in regulation.  That is when Da Runners went on a 10-0 run to tie the game at 62 apiece.  Mike Bixby hit two HUGE three’s to tie the game, but his team ran out of steam and couldn’t score for the rest of the night. The Pillows seem to have all the right pieces to make another title run this year.

In another upset The Real Dominators used stellar play from Scott Bascom to get past the second seeded Jagaloons. The Jagaloons, who had three technical fouls called on them, couldn’t seem to find an answer on the offensive end. They let their emotions get the better of them and the technical fouls proved to be the difference. The Real Dominators scored 12 points of the technical’s and cruised to a 56-40 victory.
