The Men’s Competitive Intramural Basketball Tournament got under way this past Sunday with 1st round action on April 26th, 2009
Here is a recap of the games in play…
The #1 seed Young Gunz had all they could handle with the 16th seeded Dirt Merchants. The Young Gunz used 17 three-pointers to hold off a short-handed Dirt Merchants team that was lead by Matty McGlaughin and Jim Torney. McGlaughlin dropped in 43 points and Torney scored 37 to pace the Dirt Merchants, but the firepower of the Young Gunz proved to be too much. Stace Garrick scored 38 and helped his team to a 102-86 win!!
The #9 seeded Dominators pull out a win in overtime against the 8th seeded M.I.B. The final score was 54-53. Nick Motta lead his team to the victory with 27 points, while Christian Messersmitz scored 23 in the defeat. The Dominators look for a showdown with the top-seeded Young Gunz.
The 5th seeded Gametime team held off the 12th seeded Bwater Boats and Bros team. Gametime looks to have a great shot at advancing far in this tournament with the play of their defense and the size of their big-men under the basket.
In an offensive battle the 4th seeded Muffin Tops held on to defeat Team Q-Tip. The Muffin Tops used great play from Andrew Rajora, and Brian Wilson to knock off the feisty play of Team Q-Tip! The Muffin Tops look to have all they can handle when they battle GameTime in the elite eight!
In a Chippy and hotly contested game the 3 seeded Da Runners held onto knock off 14th seeded Mass Martime Academy! Sam Johnson and Sebastian Patino had big games as Mass Martime couldn’t seem to find enough range for a big three. Da Runners look like they have all the pieces in place to make a run for the title this year!
In a blowout the 6th seeded Pillows crushed the 11th seeded Un-Competitive team by a score of 68-38. The Pillows used 4 players in double figures to dominate throughout the entire game. Roland Millien, Keenan Kelly, Julian Walters, and Jesse Teixeira look to have their team on the right track to claiming back to back Intramural championship titles!
The Real Dominators lived up to the hype and crushed the Goats by a mercy rule. The final score of 71 to 41. Six players scored for the Real Dominators and they seem to be on a role at exactly the right time!
The second seeded Jagaloons team handled the 15th seeded Spring St. Hooligans easily. The Jagaloons have lost their second leader scorer Issac Perry and he is not expected back for the reminder of the tournament. They have a pivotal match-up on Monday against the Real Dominators.
